Corporal Christopher Milito, Delaware River Port Authority - End of Watch - Saturday January 16, 2010

Photograph: Corporal Christopher Milito Delaware River Port Authority Police Corporal Christopher Milito, 40, from Media, PA, Delaware County, was killed after he was struck by a car on the Walt Whitman Bridge early Saturday morning, January 16, 2010.  Cpl. Molito was assisting an accident investigation in the eastbound lanes on the Philadelphia side of the bridge when he was hit by a car around 1:45 a.m., according to port authority officials.  Milito, who would have marked his 16-year anniversary with the department on Jan. 31, was taken to Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J., where he was pronounced dead.
The Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Division is investigating the accident. The driver of the vehicle was questioned and released pending further investigation, police said. The name of the driver was not released.
Milito was unmarried and survived by siblings. A full police funeral is expected to be held, though arrangements were incomplete as of Saturday evening, said Delaware River Port Authority spokesman Ed Kasuba.  “He was a well respected member of the department,” Kasuba said. “He made corporal after only 10 years, which is not something many do. He was considered one of our top officers ... The department is in mourning.”  The only other port authority officer to be killed in the line of duty died in 1974, said Kasuba.
Contributions
in his memory may be made to the Corporal Chris Milito Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 499, Elmer, NJ 08318 would be appreciated. Contributions can be made in person at any police and fire credit union location.
